Hotel Corsewall Lighthouse

Editorial staff

The historic Corsewall Lighthouse was built in 1815 by an engineer, the grandfather of the renowned writer Robert Louis Stevenson, author of "Treasure Island", and is located on the north shore of Rhinns of Galloway, near Stranraer. If the night is clear, the lights of several Scottish and Irish lighthouses can be seen guiding ships across the North Channel. During the day, the Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel is ideal for viewing local wildlife, including deer, seals, dolphins, and seabirds.

The hotel is located in the former lighthouse keepers' residence, which has been refurbished and offers a combination of rooms, suites, and common areas in which to relax and admire the rugged coastline of northern Scotland.

When the lights from the lighthouses of Scotland and Ireland illuminate the North Channel, they create a unique light show

Enter history and natural majesty in this A-rated building, immersed in 8 acres of breathtaking coastal panoramas. In the distance, stands the ancient fort of Dunskirloch, a vestige of times past.

On clear nights, the sky comes alive: the lighthouses of Scotland and Ireland, like ancient guardians, guide ships across the North Channel, creating a dazzling light show.

Over the years, Corsewall Lighthouse has been home to generations of lighthouse keepers and their families, who have dedicated their lives to guiding mariners across the Irish Sea.

More than just a structure, Corsewall represents a living legacy, an emblem of human endurance and commitment. From its founding to the present day, the lighthouse has been an essential part of Scotland's lighthouse network, playing a crucial role in maritime safety.

At Corsewall Lighthouse, a historic landmark with spectacular views of the Irish Sea, new custodians have arrived - John and Helen. Residing on site, they are dedicated to the care and management of this coastal gem.

Passionate about the history and nature of Corsewall, they feel privileged to be part of its legacy. They are happy to welcome regular guests, considering them part of the lighthouse family, and to guide new visitors on their first experience exploring the fascination of this enclave.
