In search of eternal summer: Five travel plans where the sun always shines

Editor. Photo: Anna Demianenko

We could define summer as the pursuit of a perfect state of mind, constantly changing places all over the planet, and that we long to maintain for as long as possible. Can you imagine if it was always summer in your life? Travel makes it possible to live that longed-for perpetual summer and pursue it by traveling the globe to a series of destinations we propose for you to enjoy the sun between August and December.

Summer in August

We begin our summer hunting trip by traveling in August. Benguerra, an island in Mozambique, the second largest of the Bazaruto Archipelago, broke away from the mainland thousands of years ago. The island is approximately 55 square kilometers and is known for its pristine white sand beaches, diving, horseback riding, and excellent fishing. In Benguerra you can discover forests, savannahs, freshwater lakes, and wetlands with crocodiles and more than 100 species of birds.

On this paradisiacal island, Kisawa Sanctuary is a luxury resort occupying 300 hectares of forest between white dunes and turquoise blue waters. Kisawa means "unwavering," a word that defines this resort's commitment to creating a link between people and country, between life and territory.

Kisawa Sanctuary is the world's first hotel mostly built with a 3D printer and has a total of 12 private villas in an exclusive and remote setting in the Indian Ocean. Sustainability, tradition, and technology make Kisawa a unique place.

The resort has been built using sustainable materials, such as a "mortar", made from the sand and saltwater of the island itself, and using 3D printing to build some of the elements of the hotel as the masonry or floors.

This accommodation is the ideal starting point to discover the island by hiking inland, diving, kayaking along the coast, relaxing, enjoying the local cuisine, and watching one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world aboard a dhow, the traditional boat typical of the area.

The island of Sumba, located in the Lesser Sunda Islands archipelago in Indonesia, is world famous for its ponies. Ancestral religious cults dating back to the Bronze Age are practiced on the island today and are seen in the famous megalithic tombs located to the west of the island and in the typical 25-meter-high thatched huts that locals believe act as a bridge between the earthly and the spiritual world in which their ancestors reside. The local shamans, called "Ratos", are the ones who still make the important decisions such as deciding when to plant or harvest.

On this island, Cap Karoso is one of the new hotels opening this year. Founded by a couple of French travelers who lived in Bali, Fabrice and Eve Ivara, this exclusive resort has a total of 20 private villas in a setting of nature, beach, and indigenous culture, characterized by a unique blend of traditional local craftsmanship and design.

The heart of the resort is a three-hectare organic farm where all the vegetables and fruits used in the resort's restaurant are grown. This remote island in the world is ideal for reconnecting with nature and with the tradition of its inhabitants in its purest state.

Pantelleria is an Italian volcanic island off the coast of Tunisia with an interesting historical and archaeological past and some of the best seabed in the Mediterranean for diving. Homer baptized it as "The Navel of the Mediterranean" and it is also known as "The Black Pearl", a place of Arabic shapes and typical scents of southern Italy.

The island is characterized by its dammusi, archaic architectural structures made of stone, harmoniously integrated into the vineyards of Zibibbo. Vineyards whose cultivation is still carried out according to ancient traditions and which have been recognized as part of the Unesco World Heritage. An evocative and unknown destination where you can practice the Italian "Dolce far niente" and enjoy a swim in the "Lago di Venere" or a romantic dinner among the vineyards under the stars staying at Sikelia, an exclusive resort located in the Monastero Valley and from where you can discover the contrasts, history, and gastronomy of this small island.

The Turks and Caicos Islands are a British overseas territory located southeast of Mayaguana in the Bahamas and north of the island of Hispaniola, where Haiti and the Dominican Republic are located, in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. It is believed that Christopher Columbus arrived in 1492 on these islands, which were then inhabited by the indigenous Lucayan Taino people of the Arawak family. In the 18th century, they served as a refuge from pirates, and during the American Revolution (1775-1783), many British loyalists to the English crown fled and became the first permanent European settlers in the Caicos Islands in 1783.

There, in this Caribbean paradise full of history and with a privileged natural environment consisting of 8 islands and about 40 cays, Parrot Cay is a private and exclusive resort within one of these cays.

Parrot Cay could be the definition of paradise and of an exclusive and eternal summer with an appetizing mix for the senses of virgin vegetation and paradisiacal beaches of white sand and turquoise waters, hidden coves and coral reefs, ideal for snorkeling, sailing in catamaran or doing yoga classes on the sand.

The gastronomy is another of the strong points of this luxury resort with seafood as the main protagonist. Not to be missed is the West Caicos style grilled snapper that can be tasted at the Asian restaurant.
